High School Book Award Program

The Atlanta Alumni Association of Phi Beta Kappa expanded its annual Book Awards program in 2002 to honor young scholars at ten Atlanta area public and private high schools.  More recently this number has grown to 41.   The committee would like to continue expanding the number of schools.

The purpose of this program is to recognize high school juniors who exemplify the highest level of academic, ethical, and social commitment.  The recipients are honored at their respective schools end-of-year awards ceremonies and each is presented a copy of a book, usually a biography of a leading citizen of the the Colonial period of U.S. history.

Past winners, chosen by their school administrators for exemplifying the principles of Phi Beta Kappa, have had a variety of interests and backgrounds, and include:

bullet a starter on her high school basketball team who also is in leadership positions in the student theater company, math team and literary magazine
bullet a computer network and website designer who has risen to the top ranks academically at his school two years after moving to the United States from eastern Europe
bullet an academic star whose interest in politics earned him a place as a student assistant in the Georgia General Assembly
